Tracey Farrell is an AASW Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. She holds a Bachelor of Human Services and a Master of Social Work, obtained at La Trobe University. In 2010 Tracey was placed on the Dean's Honors List in recognition of her academic achievement. In addition to her university degrees, Tracey has completed a range of post graduate training opportunities, in child-related interventions including child psychotherapy, sensorimotor psychotherapy, trauma focused cognitive-behavioural therapy, Sandplay Therapy, Level 1 Theraplay and Marschak Interaction Method Assessment (parent-child interaction) and more. If all of that sounds like a load of gobbledygook, don't worry - it just means she's qualified and has studied (a lot!) so that you and your child will be safe in her hands.
Tracey's previous work in the DHHS funded Integrated Family Services program has provided her with extensive experience in working with children and their families, particularly those who are experiencing a range of complex issues. This experience has driven her passion for working with children who may have experienced trauma and/or relational and attachment difficulties. She also has a particular interest in infant mental health as well as children living out of home where maximising attachment to the child's caregivers can change lives. Tracey also has a keen interest in supporting families where a parent has a terminal illness. In addition to her clinical work, Tracey lectures at university and also offers supervision for social workers, students and other health professionals working in the child and youth fields.
Tracey established Hidden Treasure Therapy in February 2015 to provide high quality child-specific therapy in her home towns of Echuca/Moama and surrounds. She is proud of the beautiful warm space that she's created, and her heart burst with joy recently when a 4 yr old commented "it feels like peace and calm in here". Seriously, can it get any better than that!?
Dan Hughes' PACE model of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy is the basis of Tracey's work and within session you'll see these come together to create that safe place where children can explore their inner world, and allow themselves to be really seen. Tracey believes that her role is to facilitate an uncovering of the child's potential , helping them find their hidden treasure.
